TTSSUG Event Review: Building Reports using SQL Server Reporting Services

The Trinidad and Tobago SQL Server User Group (TTSSUG) held its third and final meeting for 2010 at the Leon Agostini Conference Room, in the Chamber of Commerce Building on December 14th. The meeting had a small turn out of 19 people which we were very grateful for because we know how difficult it is to attend these events at this time of the year.

The presenter for this event, Jason Deyalsingh, is a web architect for Clico. He is responsible for designing and developing internal and external web systems which include data modelling for web application development as well as data transformation and integration between web applications and existing business systems.

His presentation began with a brief introduction to SQL Server Reporting Service (SSRS) and helped people to understand the basic concepts of SSRS. He explained how SSRS can be used in an organization as an enterprise reporting platform and highlighted how the tool and services are relevant to various people within an organisation. In order for the audience to truly appreciate what was explained, Jason concluded the presentation with three (3) demonstrations. His first demo gave an overview of Report Manager and his second demo explained how to create a simple report using Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) and how to deploy it to the Report Manager. The last demo to end the session was a step by step process to create a basic KPI report using Report Builder 3.0. The presentation can be downloaded here.

Once again, a big thank you to the Microsoft Trinidad and Tobago team for sponsoring this event and for assisting us with everything that contributed to the event. Also special thanks to Jason Deyalsingh for coming to present in October and December. The effort and time taken to prepare and deliver this presentation was greatly appreciated. Last but most importantly, thanks to everyone for adjusting their schedules and making the extra effort to attend this event during this busy time of the year.
